Highlights of our week in London (from 19th to 24th April) in pictures and texts

“The original Globe theatre, where many of William Shakespeare’s plays were first staged and which he co-owned, burned down in 1613 during a performance of “Henry VIII”. Nearly 400 years later, it was rebuilt not far from its original site under the auspices of actor Sam Wanamaker, using construction methods and material as close to the originals as possible.”[Time Out, London for Visitors 2007/08]

My personal highlight was our visit to the Globe Theatre. It was difficult to get the tickets for the guided tour, but in the end we were lucky. We had a young actor as a guide. He told us the main facts about this London attraction, a typical Elizabethan Theatre. We were not allowed to take pictures inside the theatre, because there was a dress rehearsal of the play “Romeo and Juliet” with the actors and actresses listening to and following the final instructions of the director. We were allowed to watch for some time. We saw the scene in which Romeo kills Juliet's cousin Tybalt and then has to flee. We learnt that the premiere would be the following day. (Susanne Pötscher)

Who do you want to meet ? Sports stars, Royalty, Pop Stars, World Leaders, Hollywood Stars, Bollywood Stars, Cultural Figures,… You will find them all in Mdm. Tussaud’s Wax Figure Exhibiton !

On Thursday we went to the world famous Madame Tussaud’s museum. But before we could get in, we had to wait in the longest queue ever. Already the entrance hall was so fascinating that we were looking forward to the actual attraction – the rooms of legendary superstars! After an hour – which seemed like ages – we came into the first room, filled with top models, famous actors and actresses. Later we had to go through a Chamber of Horror and we were very thankful for surviving this “horror trip”. At last we hopped on a little train, which passed waxfigures depicting scenes from the English history.

At the end of the day we had lots of pictures showing ourselves with our superstars, who look really authentic. It was a great experience we will never forget. (Verena Bauer (7B), Bettina Kubka und Lisa Stratmann (7A)
