3b Summer Sports Week, 16.-20. Mai, 2011

  More 3b Events

3a and 3b spent a lovely week in mostly sunny Carinthia.

We arrived on the 15th of May in the village of Faak am See where we were going to do lots of sports: the four kinds of sports we could choose from were windsurfing, tennis, beach volleyball and riding. And of course we had to cycle a lot. We needed our bikes to get to the sports places.

Beach Volleyball

On Monday morning we cycled to the beach volleyball place. First we warmed up and then our teacher, Tommy, taught us how to play volleyball. On the first day we had courses in the morning and in the afternoon.
On the second day we played our first match. It was very nice to play barefoot in the sand and listen to music. We were very lucky with the weather - the sun was shining all day.
On the last day we had a tournament with other kids. We had a lot of fun. The other kids were older and taller than us, so it was difficult to win. But Tommy let us all win the first prize!

Horseriding
A small group of only four girls went horse-riding. Every day we (Lisa M., Katja, Ghada and Hareen) woke up, had breakfast and rode our bikes to the surfing place. There we parked our bikes and went up a hill. The hiking was very exhausting. We were very tired when we arrived. Our trainer, Christina, allowed us to look at the horses. Her assistant, Jacqueline, taught us how to groom a horse. After we groomed them, we took them to the riding hall. Christina taught us the basic steps. We did the walk and the trot. We were very happy when we managed. It was nice and fun. We had to do the same every day, but we also learned how to gallop. Naturally we were very sad when the last day came and we had to say good-bye to the horses. But: we didn’t have to hike up that hill anymore!

Tennis
Some of us chose tennis. On the first day our teacher, Drago, taught us how to hit the ball correctly. On the second day we had a different teacher, Ingo, and we also went to a different place. Over the next three days we learned all the things beginners need to know, and on the last day we had a big match. It was great fun to play tennis, but also tiring. We were exhausted after each course and thirsty, but I still enjoyed it!

Windsurfing
A popular sport was windsurfing. On the first day we had to learn a lot of theory, for example how to hold the sail or how to stand on the board. Then we went surfing in the water for half an hour. Unfortunately there wasn’t any wind, so we were very slow. On our second day we had to get up very early because the surfing class started at 8.30. We had to wear wet suits because the water was very cold. In the afternoon we didn’t wear our wet suits – it had become too hot! It was very windy so we could go really fast! On Wednesday we could sleep in because we only met at 9.30. We did the same as the day before. Thursday was different: we had a test to get the beginners’ certificate. It was very easy because the teacher told us the answers. In the afternoon it was our last time windsurfing on Faaker See.

Apart from going to our sports classes we also did lots of other things. On Monday we had a bike tour around the lake. It was a bit exhausting because it was so sunny. Soon we arrived at a supermarket where we could buy some drinks. We cycled through the forest and across meadows. It took us one and a half hours to get back to our hotel. We were quite tired after that because it had been a long day. The next day some of us went mountain biking up to Finkenstein, a ruin on a hill. Everybody had to cycle to the foot of the hill. Then the 14 bikers rode away with Mr Leitgeb and Ms Milachowski. The way up felt very long and was exhausting because it was hot. About two thirds of the way up we had a short break. There was a small river where we washed our faces. Then Mr Leitgeb said it was going to be very hard from there on. Most of us made it without pushing the bike and we arrived there without any problems. At the top we met the others who had walked up to the ruin and had a drink. Unfortunately the ruin was closed. We could cycle down fast and arrived at our hotel earlier than the hikers.

On Wednesday afternoon only the surfers went back to their course after lunch. All the others cycled to a mini-golf place. When we arrived there, Mr Leitgeb said that we should go into groups. Then we took a ball, a mini-golf club and a piece of paper to write down our points. There were 18 holes. Some of the boys and girls did a hole in one. After everybody had finished, we added up the points of each group. It was great fun to play mini-golf! After that we went swimming!

We went swimming on Wednesday and on Thursday. It was very hot on those days, so we were very happy when the teachers said we could go swimming. We lay in the sun, jumped into the water, bought ice-cream and had FUN! It was lovely to see the turquoise water!

On the last day after supper we all met outside to go to the market. We walked for about 20 minutes. The market was a lot of moveable stalls, there was loud music and lots of food. We all split up into groups of 3-5 people. There was a big slide and you could buy candy floss in lemon or apple. Almost everyone decided to get a bracelet with their names on it. We could only spend 45 minutes there but when we went back to the hotel it was dark.
